Waiting for Night to End

A sailboat is silhouetted on a sea of dark blue that turns into stars. Clouds form at the horizon, giving a mirror reflection to the auburn sky at day's end. Text reads "Waiting for Night to End."

How well did you sleep this week? For some, the night passes quickly; you wake feeling rested and refreshed. Others pass the night in shifts; they are up and down throughout the night as though their body needs to reestablish contact with the conscious world every 90 minutes or so. The weary watch the clock go around and around. Morning comes and there has been no rest. This can be caused by medical conditions, work schedules, or anxiety. Maybe the better question is “What keeps you up at night?” or “Why are you waiting for night to end?”

A person familiar with suffering wrote Psalm 88  Unable to rest, his fatigued body went through the motions of the day only to find sleep elusive. This morning, you may be waiting for the long night to end. Life seems dreary, depressing, and pointless. The author knows how you feel. Notice that God is always your best hope.
