The quest for truth and authenticity is great. Although we can disguise it in silly forms, society longs for truth. Social media outlets seek to answer silly questions like “will it taco?” and “is it cake?” But for every humorous content creator, there are serious questions being asked like “is it real?” and “are we sure?” These are questions with dramatic impact and implications. 

John addresses the questions his audience has about Jesus. His letter addresses beliefs common to those who follow Jesus and verifies the truth while pointing out the erroneous falsehoods prevalent in his audience. Although we may not face the same challenges as John’s audience, we must reach the same conclusion. John writes for one purpose: to tell the truth about Jesus. It is a simple truth: Jesus is your only hope. Notice how John gathers and presents his expert witnesses and their testimonies about Jesus.
