The Burden of Privilege (Romans 9:1 – 5)

We continue along the Pathway of Hope. The first eight chapters in Romans place a strong emphasis on FAITH – believing what God says IS true. Now a new section begins, one that focuses squarely on HOPE. Paul has shown God is working all things together for good to them who love Him. He is about to show us that it includes calling Gentiles while rejecting Jews. This prompts us to ask “if Paul says we all have access to this relationship with God, what about all the promises God made to israel? Have they been set aside or ignored?” Paul takes several chapters to explain that God is still in control, is still working all to highlight His glory, and is still going to keep every last one of His promises. Yes, Israel has been given great privileges, and that results in a great burden for them and for Paul.
